Location details

The Chapel of St James, dating back to the 15th century, was built in the ‘mestrella’ region, that is, in a protected area reserved for travellers and pilgrims: indeed, evidence confirms that one of the many medieval routes to the shrine of Santiago de Compostela in Spain passed through Busca. The restoration work, which began in 2014, was carried out with the support of numerous banking foundations, as well as donations from private individuals: Fondazione CRT, Fondazione CRC – Cultural Heritage Call for Proposals, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Saluzzo, BCC Banca di Caraglio, the Town of Busca and the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo. The initiative was organised by the chapel’s trustees, together with the parish priest of Busca, Father Roberto Bruna, and the Diocese of Saluzzo.
