Micun and Micunetta are the masks of the Busca carnival, linked to the tradition of bread-making. The idea originated with two local youths, Reno Masoero and Giuseppe Fassino, who in 1955 decided to create two local masks. The name derives, in fact, from the shape of a typical Piedmontese bread: the \u2018micun\u2019, a male character, and his lady \u2018micunetta\u2019. The first two residents of Busca to portray the local masks were Lucia Daniele and Luigi Berardo. Numerous citizens then carried on the local tradition.<\/p>\n

Busca is the bread-making town par excellence, and wherever you see the sign \u2018Panetteria Buschese\u2019, it is a guarantee of quality: there are several branches in Piedmont and one in Rome. It is said that bread from Busca, sent to support the town of Cuneo, helped sustain the resistance during the siege of 1744. A Piedmontese dictionary from 1816 also mentions the tradition of the Ciciu and the Galetu, good-luck charms made in communal ovens from leftover bread dough, given as gifts on Epiphany by godfathers and godmothers to their godchildren.<\/p>\n

Another culinary symbol of the town is the \u2018Baci di Busca\u2019, made by various local families. Each family puts their own creative touch on them, often resulting in sweets with names and shapes inspired by local history. The \u2018Baci di Busca\u2019 is a journey through time that began in the late 1950s with the Fagiolo bakery.<\/p>\n

As is tradition, the \u201cMay Fair \u2013 From Square to Square\u201d returns on the last Sunday of the month, organised by the traders of Assoimprese and the Municipality of Busca in collaboration with the Amleto Bertoni Foundation of Saluzzo. Piazza Regina Margherita, Piazza Savoia, Piazza della Rossa and Piazza Santa Maria will be the four squares at the heart of the event, each with a different theme and programme of entertainment: small-scale crafts and large wooden games, local produce and ingenious creations, flowers, music and Occitan dances. Via Umberto I and Via Roberto d\u2019Azeglio, meanwhile, will be the streets dedicated to shopping, offering the chance to discover the shops in Busca open for the occasion, with displays of products and special offers.<\/p>\n

The municipality of Busca comprises numerous hamlets and villages, with patron saint festivals held throughout the year in honour of the patron saints at the various chapels and shrines: Valmala, Lemma, Bianciotto, Morra S. Bernardo, Morra S. Giovanni, S. Stefano, Madonna del Campanile, S. Quintino, S. Martino, Attissano, S. Vitale, S. Barnaba, S. Rocco, Bicocca, Roata Raffo, S. Giuseppe, S. Alessio, S. Mauro, Castelletto, Bosco, S. Chiaffredo. There is no shortage of town festivals, such as those of San Luigi and the Madonnina.<\/p>\n

In September 2024, a new venue opened its doors to the public. It houses the extraordinary collection of postcards belonging to its founder, to whom the \u201cMario Berardo Postcard Museum\u201d is dedicated; sadly, he passed away on 19 March this year whilst he was already working on the project. The members of the association of the same name have completed the long process of realising his lifelong dream, making the precious collection available to the public. It comprises around fifty thousand postcards of various kinds, depicting cityscapes as well as commemorative, sporting and religious events. Mario Berardo, a former town councillor, was known as \u2018l tabachin\u2019 and was the owner of the family tobacconist\u2019s; in 2012, as a passionate connoisseur of local history, he held the post of president of the \u201cComitato Busca 250\u201d for the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the town\u2019s charter.\n- The \u2018Mario Berardo\u2019 Postcard Museum, Via Martiri della Libert\u00e0 6, is open every Wednesday from 5 pm to 7 pm; by appointment on Fridays from 10 am to 12 noon. Mario Collino, known as Prezzemolo, a toy-maker by passion, is regarded as the \u2018Geppetto of Piedmont\u2019. He has spent his life creating and bringing to life toys from days gone by, made entirely by hand using recycled materials or, as he prefers to call them, \u2018re-used\u2019 materials. Prezzemolo, with his \u201ctoys of yesteryear\u201d, which he keeps in his small museum\/workshop, loves to entertain young and old alike with the games of the past, many of which have been forgotten, and which he himself has learnt about through the stories of the elderly whom he has visited for years and continues to meet in care homes.\n\n- Prezzemolo and the toys of the past, Via Dronero 101 (Morra San Bernardo, Busca) \u2013 the museum\/workshop of Mario Collino, known as \u201cPrezzemolo\u201d. In the Parco-Museo \u201cdell\u2019Ingenio\u201d, on the first floor of the former Capuchin convent, a special section of the \u201cMuseo del Tombolo\u201d (bobbin lace) has been open to the public since September 2018. Visits to the small museum, which traces over a century of history of the Fagiolo Peirano family and their artisan traditions in confectionery, chocolate-making and tailoring, are available by appointment. Organised into seven sections, it displays over 600 documents of various kinds and period artefacts which, in an intriguing combination, showcase the most significant specialities and \u201cBaci\u201d associated with the town of Busca.<\/p>\n

The film archive is the result of a passion for cinema nurtured over sixty years by its founder, which developed from his early visits to cinemas during his youth into increasingly structured and specialised forms. Since its inception, the Sergio Arecco Film Archive has been committed to providing the tools to help people understand the language, structure and power of the moving image, whilst at the same time making the image itself the medium through which learning takes place.\n\nOpen to the public: the first and third Saturday of every month, from 10 am to 12 noon.<\/p>\n
